URL groups
Save a set of pages as a group, so you can follow a whole section of your site instead of one page at a time.
A URL group is a saved set of rules that picks pages on one site. "Everything in the blog", "all product pages" or "the pages we rewrote in March" are all good groups.
Each group belongs to one site. If you manage several sites, make the group on each one.
Create a group
- Open URL groups and choose the site.
- Give the group a name you will recognise later.
- Add one or more rules. A rule matches page addresses that:
- contain some text, such as
/blog/ - start with some text
- are an exact address
- match a regex (a regular expression), for patterns the other three cannot describe
- contain some text, such as
- Add excludes for pages that match a rule but do not belong. For example, a blog group might exclude
/blog/tag/pages. - Save.
Read a group's page
Each group has its own page with:
- the group's totals, compared with the previous period
- a trend chart for the group
- the group's top pages and top queries
This is the quickest way to answer "is the blog growing?" without adding up pages by hand.
Use a group elsewhere
- Pages and Queries. Filter either list by a group to see only that group's pages, or the queries they appear for. See Pages and queries.
- Experiments. Start an experiment from a group to measure a change you made across all of its pages. See Experiments.
