Troubleshooting
Fixes for failed imports, a disconnected Google account, missing sites, low numbers and an empty Action plan.
An import failed
Each site on Sites shows a badge when its last import did not finish cleanly. Hover over the badge to see the error.
| Badge | Means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| running | An import is in progress | Wait. Refresh the page later. |
| partial | Some of the data came in, some did not | Usually nothing: the next morning's import tries again. The "data through" date only moves on once an import fully succeeds. |
| failed | Nothing came in | Read the error. If it says no Google account is linked, reconnect one (below). Then press the sync button to try again. |
| reauth required | Google stopped accepting our access | Reconnect Google (below) |
A failed import retries on its own a few times before it gives up.
Reconnect Google
If Google stops accepting our access, a banner across the top of every page says the sync is paused, and the person who connected the account gets an email. Common causes are a changed Google password, access removed in the Google account, or a connection left unused for a long time.
Press Reconnect in the banner and sign in with the same Google account. Imports resume, and nothing already imported is lost.
The daily import covers the last 14 days. If the account was disconnected for longer than that, press the sync button on Sites to re-import the gap.
"No sites found"
The Google account you chose cannot see any sites in Search Console, or we could not reach Search Console. Check:
- The right Google account. Open Search Console signed in as that account. If no sites are listed there, you need a different account, or someone needs to give this one access.
- The connection. Connect the Google account again from Settings, then try again.
I cannot add a site
- You are at your plan's limit. Remove a site, or upgrade. See Plans, trials and billing.
- It is a new team on the free plan. Starter only covers your personal team. A new team needs a paid plan before it can add sites.
- The site is already in the team. Each Search Console property can only be added once per team.
A site stopped updating
If your team has more sites than its plan allows, for example after a trial ends, only the sites you added first keep updating. The others keep their data but stop importing. Upgrade, or remove sites you no longer need.
The numbers look low
- Compare like with like. The Overview's totals are Search Console's site totals; lists of pages add up to less. Queries add up to less again, because Google hides anonymised searches. See Why the numbers differ from Search Console.
- Check the dates. Our periods end on the "data through" date, about two days ago. With all sites selected, that is the earliest date across your sites.
- Check the history. A period longer than your plan keeps only covers the days we hold. See How long your data is kept.
- Check the property. A URL-prefix property only covers part of a site. See Connect Search Console.
The Action plan is empty
- The first import has not finished. Check the site's status on Sites. The plan fills in once the import and its analysis are done.
- A filter is hiding actions. Check the status, queue and site filters. The default status, Actionable, hides actions awaiting review, reviewed or dismissed.
- The site is small. Each kind of action needs enough search traffic behind it, so a site with few impressions may get few actions or none. See The Action plan for what each kind looks for, and try Queries sorted by impressions.
- Your history is short. Traffic decline needs 56 days of history.
If the import has finished and you expected actions, press Refresh evidence on the Action plan.
An experiment says "insufficient data"
Each period needs enough days of data and enough clicks to compare. Wait longer, or measure a group of pages instead of one. See Experiments.
I cannot disconnect a Google account
Remove the sites that use it first. Only the person who connected an account can disconnect it. See Connect Search Console.
