Connect Search Console

How to connect your Google account, choose the right Search Console property and add more sites.

What access we ask for

Copilot SEO asks Google for read-only access to Search Console. It can read your search performance data. It cannot change anything in Search Console: it cannot add users, submit sitemaps or remove pages.

Google also shares the name, email address and picture of the Google account you connect, so you can tell your accounts apart.

We also ask for offline access, which lets us import new data each morning without you being signed in.

Which Google account to use

Use a Google account that can open the site in Search Console. If you can see the site's Performance report there, that account will work.

A Google account is connected to you, not to the team. You can connect more than one, for example your own account and one a client has given access to.

Connect and add a site

The guided setup at Setup walks you through this. To add a site later, go to Sites and add one there.

  1. Connect your Google account and approve access.
  2. Choose the Google account, then the site. The list shows every property that account can see in Search Console.
  3. Add the site. The first import starts straight away. See Your first import.

Domain or URL-prefix property?

Search Console has two kinds of property, and the list shows both.

Kind Looks like Covers
Domain sc-domain:example.com Every subdomain (www, shop, blog) and both http and https
URL-prefix https://www.example.com/ Only addresses that start with exactly that prefix

If you have both, choose the Domain property. It gives the whole picture.

Choose a URL-prefix property when you want one part of a site on its own, such as a subdomain run by another team.

We import exactly what the property you choose holds, and we do not merge properties. If you add a Domain property and a URL-prefix property for the same site, they count as two sites on your plan and their numbers overlap.

Add more sites

Add each site from Sites. How many sites a team can have depends on your plan: see Plans, trials and billing.

Disconnect a Google account

Go to Settings and find the account under Connected Google accounts. Only the person who connected an account can disconnect it.

You need to remove any sites that use the account first. See Privacy and security for what removing a site deletes.

Disconnecting deletes the Google tokens we hold. To remove Copilot SEO from your Google account as well, open your Google account's third-party connections and remove it there.
